Reading Silverwing, by Kenneth Oppel, while ignoring her Dad and little brother at a patio table at a burger joint. "She reads all the time," said her Dad, who confessed that, though he studied literature in college, he doesn't read much--too busy working.

Recently she's read the following:

Of the books on the list, the 451 page Peter and the Starcatchers, by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, was her favorite. She read it all on a single day when she was home "sick." Everyone else in her class liked it and she thinks adults would like it, too.

When she chooses books to read she follows her teacher's rule of thumb: Read the first page (not the back cover--that'll give the book away) and if you like it and there are no more than five words you don't know, check it out.
