Reading In Night's City, by Dorothy Nelson, an Irish author. Here's a review from The Quarterly Conversation: http://esposito.typepad.com/TQC_4/Nights_City.html
Recently she read books by British mystery authors Ruth Rendell, Minette Walters, and Edna O'Brien, and a biography about Raymond Carver by Maryann Burk Carver, his first wife.
When I asked her what her favorite book was she laughed and said there's too many to count.
