Reading New Stories from the South, 2006-The Year's Best, edited by Alan Gurganus and Kathy Pories, the series editor. A lover of short stories, he buys this collection, as well as the O. Henry collection every year. Other short story collections he has read are by Alice Munroe, Haruki Murakami, Edward Jones and Chekov. He recently completed the USF Writing program and writes short stories himself. His favorite themes are disfunction, aging and loneliness--typical themes anyone can relate to. His favorite book store is in Glenn Park--Bird and Beckett, named after Samuel Beckett and the saxaphone player, Charlie parker.
