Reading Mama Day, by Gloria Naylor. She reads to learn. This book has taught her about the depth and breadth of the culture of black women living in the South. She has been impressed with the characters' intuitive depth of knowledge of the earth--the science of weather and the earth, the herbs and nature itself.

Something she's read recently is Team of Rivals, Lincoln's Political Prowess, by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Her favorite book--it's hard to say, though, on her 35 minute (each way) commute, she loves to read.
