Reading Philosophy As Cultural Politics, by Richard Porty, while waiting for a table at Venus (in Berkeley). He's read all of Porty's work and was excited by the release of this book--everything else he's reading these days is for his PhD program in Language and Education.

A gem of wisdom from the book, which he took the time to impart even though the hostess had called his table and he was eagerly awaiting his favorite berry waffles --nobody realizes they need philosophy until society is falling apart.

One of his favorite books is The Writing Life, by Annie Dillard. He didn't expand on why--he'd already left us for the waffles.

Also pictured is my friend Katya....we recommend the lemon ricotta pancakes.
