Reading The Samurai's Wife, by Laura Joh Rowland. It's the second in the series, the first was The Concubine's Tattoo. He's drawn to it because it's historical fiction--the books tell about the samurai way of life and their customs and because it's a murder mystery.

He reads non-fiction about current events also, but generally articles in magazines or on-line, as he finds it difficult to invest eight hours in an author whose viewpoint he may not entirely agree with.

Favorites--Michael Chrichton and Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
