Reading Merlin's Ring, by H. Warner Munn. It's light reading, she said. It's hard to read philosophical treatises at work.

Some favorite authors are Isaac Asimov, Harry Turtledove, Robert Heinlein, and Ursula K. Le Guin, especially Left Hand of Darkness. Also, Dickens and Homer.

A book that's helped her go through a transition in her life--Jazz Country, by Nat Hentoff, which is about a young white boy breaking into the jazz industry. It was recommended by a librarian who was her buddy. They would talk every Saturday. At the time she was sixteen-years-old and transferring to an all black high school during the San Francisco City and County School Integration Program. Before they were bussing black kids out to white schools and they switched it around.

Another author who can be transitional--Joseph Campbell.
