September 30, Tuesday evening -- Reading Don Pendelton

Reading Dark Star, #96 in the Stony Man series, by Don Pendelton.

If he were to write his own book, it'd be a sort of Michael Crichton's Timeline crossed with Piers Anthony. In the book, people would go back in time, but it wouldn't be convenient. You'd arrive somewhere where you don't speak the language. You might arrive in Midieval time in France and have to try to explain things like what shizzle my nizzle means.

What does shizzle my nizzle mean? It's from Snoop Dogg and is a different way of saying for sure my nigga. For instance, You like Piers Anthony? Fo' shizzle my nizzle! And then, by getting each others language we would get each other better, too.

He used to read all the time, but now has been working about ten hour days and doesn't have time, though, now he's on vacation. On this corner--Market Street near United Nations Plaza--you can see everything, he said. He loves San Francisco, but can't take it all time. So, he did the next best thing--he moved nearby to Petaluma so he can always come and visit. He loves reading on this corner.

We also talked about the USS Cole tragedy, and how it brought all different religions to pray together. Wouldn't it be great if Christians and Muslims could worship together?

If you could travel back in time, what elements of your way of speaking would you share?
