January 9, Friday afternoon -- Reading W.E.B. Griffin

Taking phone calls, getting his shoes shined
and reading Black Ops, (Presidential Agent Series #5) by W.E.B. Griffin. He's read about a dozen W.E.B. Griffin books, which he calls "candy" and "the opposite of chick-lit."

The last thing he read -- Dennis Lehane's most recent book, The Given Day, which he said was more literature than candy.

If he were to write his own book, it'd be candy. It'd have spies, sex, terrorism --the best candy. It'd be an all-day sucker.

His favorite book of all time is Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, which he read when he was thirteen, but the books that got him into reading when he was younger, were The Hardy Boys. He's been giving his old ones to his grandkids, and Nancy Drew books, too--the kids are 6, 7, and 8.

I like a man that wears funky socks under a suit. Those playing cards threw me for a loop, through - it's to keep the socks clean, I guess?
