February 13, Saturday evening -- Reading Bill Buford

Waiting for the 22 bus
Reading Among the Thugs (among us passengers), by Bill Buford, which he took from someone at work who was taking too long to read it.

He's a fast reader and reads a lot. Authors he likes -- Haruki Murakami -- he just finished South of the Border, West of the Sun -- and Irvine Welsh, who wrote Trainspotting.

At this point of the interview, he abandoned us thugs and grabbed a taxi. Good choice -- the bus didn't come for another 10 minutes.

Have you ever lost patience and taken a book from a friend?

No, but I wait until my daughter goes to bed, and then I read her books.
