Reading Lovers for One Night (the bastardized English translation of the Czech title), by Ivan Klima. It contains classical essays about love and relationships. The reader has been living in the States for about a year and a half and enjoys checking out books in the Czech language from the San Francisco Public Library--they have a good collection.

One of her favorite authors is Erich Maria Remarque, who writes about the time of Second World War and about the lives of Jewish people. Here's a link to a site about him: http://remarque.org/about_remarque.html
