Reading My Year of Meats, by Ruth Ozeki. The reader praised the author, saying that the book was well-written and very funny while getting a lot of information across.
This is one of my personal favorite books--it's about a fictional Japanese TV series subsidized by the beef industry which showcases a different housewife every week cooking her favorite meat dish--reality TV a la bachelor or bachelorette, where the star isn't a real person, it's the meat. Woven into the fun and sometimes zany storyline is a heavy commentary on the meat industry today. Very scary.
