Reading Exocet, by Jack Higgins. He said it's pretty good, that it's passing the time. Some of his favorite authors are Ken Follett, Nelson DeMille and Dick Francis.

He reads to understand what has happened to him since he's come to San Francisco. He said he underlines things in the books and then writes letters to people about it--he tried to explain his process to me, but said it would take too long to go into.

This in from author Ken Follett:

Dear Sonya,

This is going to be a big year for me. In the autumn I will publish 'World without End', the sequel to 'The Pillars of the Earth'. I have almost finished the rewrite, and I'm really pleased with it. It's another long book -- I've been working on it for almost three years now -- and I think readers will find in it the kind of deep fascination they found in 'Pillars'.

It will be in shops in the USA and the UK early in October. The Italian translation is due even sooner, in September, and other translations will follow in 2008. I'll be spending most of this coming autumn on the road, promoting the book, and I'm looking forward to meeting old and new readers then.

Meanwhile, check my web site at http://www.ken-follett.com for more details of 'World without End'.

Happy New Year!

Ken
