Reading The Alienist, by Caleb Carr. It's a thriller. Someone on the plane recommended it. She's only thirty pages into it, but so far so good.

Recently she read a book about Buddhism and The Reluctant Empress, by Brigitte Hamann, which is about Empress Elizabeth of Austria. She bought the book to read before a trip to Vienna, but hadn't had a chance to read it before she left. When she picked it up again she discovered that it was more interesting than she'd thought. Elizabeth was a very rebellious and extraordinarily beautiful woman who did whatever she wanted, which aggravated people on the court. At the age of sixty she was stabbed to death by an Italian anarchist.

Her favorite author--Vladimir Nabokov.
