November 18, Tuesday evening -- Reading Jane Bowles

In front of Muddy Waters coffee shop
Reading My Sister's Hand in Mine, the collected works of Jane Bowles. She got it for free--her library at the California College of the Arts was giving it away. She's on page twelve, reading a story called, Two Serious Ladies.

Favorite book of all time -- Still Life with Woodpecker, by Tom Robbins. It's a love story. She read it for the first time in high school and since then has read it about five more times. Something that she comes back to in her mind from the book--the blackberry bushes. They're sheltering and grow rampant.

If she were to write her own book, it'd be about teenage girls, like the 1950's book by Joyce Carol Oates--Foxfire: Confessions of a Girl Gang.

What do you like by Tom Robbins?

Everything! He is by far my favorite author. If I had to pick one I think it would be Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas.
