December 5, Friday evening -- Reading Elaine Slivinski Lisandrelli and Rumiko Takahashi

In the glow of the streetlights
Reading Maya Angelou: More Than a Poet, by Elaine Slivinski Lisandrelli and Ranma 1/2, by Rumiko Takahashi. One of her junior high classmates was also reading Ranma 1/2, so she decided to try it, too.

She recommends the website onemanga.com, where you can read mangas online for free. She's even thought of doing her own manga--she showed me a beautiful sketch in her notebook of a manga character in the story she's writing about a girl who has special powers and has been chosen to save her own world and other worlds.

She likes reading about the Aztecs, the Mayans, other history, mangas, and Maya Angelou. She read me part of one of Maya Angelou's poems
Lift up your eyes
Upon this day breaking for you.
Give birth again
To the dream.

What poets do you like?
