Reading House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, which was recommended to his wife. The last book he recommended to her was something his father recommended to him-- Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling, by Ross King. The Pope, he said, was a pretty hard guy to work for. He listed a few more books he'd read recently, but the only one that stuck in my mind was Devil in the White City:Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America, by Erik Larson.
