September 5, Friday evening -- Reading Daniel Quinn

Reading Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn. He's doing a motorcycle tour of the country and traded this book with someone he stayed with for a book called Hobo, by Zebu Recchia (pen name is Eddy Joe Cotton), about train hopping.

Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn--which is a conversation between a man and a gorilla about sustainability and the history of the world. (premise may sound hokey, but the book is not....in fact, I'd hear so much about Ishmael without knowing the premise, that when I did learn it, I thought it was a joke.)

We talked about technology. If you're got it, he said, you're going to use it. For instance, I gave him an address and offered to draw him a map and he said that was alright, he didn't need directions. He travels with a GPS and said he'd look up the address. And, at the same time, he said that he sort of regrets having a GPS, because it means less human interaction, but he's still going to use it. I still gave him directions.

Have you read Ishmael?
