March 12, Friday evening -- Reading Joseph O'Neill

At the Elbo Room, having a drink, waiting for the doors to open for a Literary Death Match
Reading Netherland, by Joseph O'Neill, recommended by a friend. It's good, she said. The book is about a Dutch couple living in New York around the time of 9-11.

Something else good she recommends -- The Sheltering Sky, by Paul Bowles. It's about a trio of Americans -- a married couple and a friend -- and their hardships as they travel through northern Africa.

Yes, it is light enough to read at the Elbo Room.
