January 21, 2014, Tuesday afternoon -- Reading John Scalzi

On the bus on the way home from work
Reading Fuzzy Nation, by John Scalzi.  His favorite book - The Android's Dream - is by the same author.  "His books are funny," he explained.  "That's a major selling point."  He also really likes Ursula K. Le Guin, though I forget which series he mentioned.
The woman sitting next to him, who was also kind enough to talk to me, said that her favorite book is The Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum.  She told me about how it's actually part of a 13-book series which Dogeared Books sometimes sells, and that it's full of political commentary.  She has her own copy of the book, which is illustrated with beautiful, dark images.
